Are Face Masks Really Effective In Preventing The Coronavirus?

The coronavirus, is being said to have been originating from Wuhan in China. This global pandemic virus is now named COVID-19.

This virus has spread throughout the entire world, severely affecting the livelihoods of all world citizens.

Due to the surge in demand for medical face masks, there has been a significant mass shortage across countries. Where to buy UK face mask, our UK store has all the face mask protective equipment you require, from FFP1 all the way to the N95 equivalent.

How effective are face masks for preventing coronavirus?

The world health organisation have described a few methods to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, one of them being to wear a face mask.

This will limit the spread of the tiny respiratory droplets that escape when you cough and sneeze, but also protect you from breathing in virus particles into your respiratory systems, or from touching your facial orifices with contaminated hands.

If these droplets were to be inhaled, or land on a surface that is later touched, the person could then contract the virus and unknowingly spread it to others.

This makes wearing a face mask an essential contribution to the control of the COVID-19 pandemic. These face masks create a barrier between the infected droplets and your respiratory systems, with a choice of varying protective levels to choose from.

 KN95 FACE MASK

FFP1 Face masks

FFP1 facemasks is the lowest level of protection that a face mask can offer, this is why they are the cheapest to manufacture and easily affordable. They are used for protecting against concentrations of up to 4x OEL or 4x APF.

FFP2 Face masks - (N95 face mask /KN95 Equivalent)

FFP2 facemasks offer the second-highest level of protection, being regarded as equivalent to the N95 respirator used throughout Europe and the US. These masks meet the WHO guidelines for effective protection against the coronavirus as they stop the inhalation of concentrations up to 12x OEL or 10x APF.

FFP3 Face masks

FFP3 facemasks yield the highest level amongst the three, filtering out most materials in concentrations of up to 50x OEL or 20x APF.

These masks have been effectively used against Asbestos as well as within the NHS for substances containing viral and bacterial properties.

Why is coronavirus spreading so quickly?

This virus is spread through the respiratory droplets left behind after coughs and sneezes. Most viruses, like the common cold show symptoms within 2-3 days. The coronavirus incubation period (time taken to display symptoms) is within 2-14 days, meaning that an individual can contract COVID-19 and unknowingly spread it to hundreds of people over a two week period.

This virus has also been shown to have asymptomatic effects, meaning some people contract the virus and never show any symptoms.

During that time, the individual could unknowingly pass the virus on to friends and family, as well as strangers and vulnerable members of society incredibly fast, without even realising it.

How else can I protect myself from coronavirus?

Whilst wearing a face mask is considered very effective, following basic hygiene practices such as washing the hands regularly, catching coughs and sneezes into tissues that are then immediately discarded and of course self-isolating if you begin to show any symptoms.

Like all viruses, they cannot be treated by antibiotics, meaning it is down to the strength of the immune system on whether one can fight the virus or not. Keeping your immune system healthy and well kept is the key to fighting COVID-19 if contracted.
